WORD FOR TODAY

DO YOU REALLY LOVE ME?

”Jesus repeated the question: Simon, son of John, do you really love me?

Yes, Lord,Peter said, you know I am your friend. Then take care of my sheep, Jesus said”. (John 21:16 TLB)

Above was Jesus parting word for Apostle Peter who had been with him for over three years. Of the twelve apostles that Jesus called to be with him, Peter was one of he closest, yet Jesus asked him repeatedly:  ”do you really love me?” You see, people follow people for reasons that may be selfish.

Jesus said to Peter ”if you know you love me then take care of my sheep (in order words; mind my business)”.  Love is not passive. The proof of love is your pursuits. The Love of God is so fundamental that one cannot be a true christian without it. True worship is being so desperately in love with God that the idea of substituting it for anything else does not even remotely exist.  If you really love God, holiness, faith, fear of God will be effortless.

The question is: if Jesus were to ask you today: ”do you really love me” what will your response be? Writing to the Corinthian church, apostle Paul says: ”If you love someone you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him and always stand your ground in defending him.

All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever. Someday prophecy, and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge – these gifts will disappear. (1 Corinth. 13:7-8 TLB). Love is eternal.

Search your heart. Are there things that are competing with the love of God in your heart? Drop them.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love for me; in sending your Son Jesus Christ to die on the Cross for me. Thank you so much in Jesus Name. Grant me the grace to love you with all my heart, all my strength, and to love my neighbours as myself. Amen.

……the Lord says, ”because he loves me, I will rescue him, I will make him great because he trusts in my name. (Psalm 91:14 TLB)

May this be your testimony in Jesus Name. Amen
