WORD FOR TODAY

THE CARPENTER

”Soon afterwards he left that section of the country and returned with his disciples to Nazareth, his home town. The next Sabbath, he went to the Synagogue to teach, and the people were astonished at his wisdom and his miracles because he was just a local man like themselves. ”He’s no better than we are, they said. ”He’s just a carpenter, Mary’s boy, and a brother of James and Joseph, Judas and Simon; And his sisters live right here among us”, And they were offended.” (Mark 6: 1-3 TLB)

Jesus learned the Carpenter Trade and worked at it perhaps up until he entered the ministry. Jewish Law and Custom required every father to do four things for a first born Son:

Circumcise him (Gen. 17:10-14)

Redeem him ( Exo. 13: 2, 12. Num 3 :42-51)

Teach him the Law (Deut. 6:6-9, 11:19-20)

Teach him a trade. This is founded upon the maxim: ”he who teaches not his son to do some work is as if he taught him robbery”.

Jesus was not only a carpenter, he was Son of a Carpenter. Those who belittle his ministry cheat themselves. The anointing you don’t respect can never bless you. The worst tragedy in life is to face eternity without Christ – to go to a Christless grave. His people rejected him because of over familiarity. They missed a lot.

A carpenter goes to the forest; cuts down trees into logs of wood, cuts them further into planks, then takes the planks into his workshop where through a series of several itirative processes transforms a raw wood to a beautiful piece of furniture. He then takes the furniture to a showroom and ………. displays it.

In a sense, Jesus continues His carpentry ministry in our lives today (Heb. 13:8). If you have not given your life to Jesus, Say: Dear Jesus, I acknowledge I am a Sinner. Please forgive me. Come into my life. Be my Lord and personal saviour. I confess with my mouth, what I believe in my heart that you are the Son of the Most High God who died and rose for me. Grant me the grace to live for you. Thank you Jesus. I am born again. Amen. If you prayed this prayer from your heart, your transformation has begun. We all are at varying stages of transformation in the Master Carpenter’s Workshop. Some of the processes may not be too sweet, but for sure the end is beautiful.

Only Jesus can save. Only Jesus can give meaning to life. When we give our lives to him, he takes us to his workshop; cuts off our rough edges, polishes us, and presents us as his bride – without spot or wrinkle. No one can repair your life like him. He is the doctor that can never fail. (You may wish to download one of our songs: ”Repair my Life”). A miracle awaits you.
