LIKE A WEANED CHILD

Lord my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother, my soul is even as weaned child. Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever”. (Psalm 131 KJV).

One interesting character to study in the Old Testament is David. He fought several wars but lost none. Faced with many challenges that perplexed and puzzled him, he refused to be agitated. He drew strength from his relationship with God. Many times he had to encourage himself in the LORD.  Adversity drew him closer to God.

David understood the importance of humility, so like a weaned child he surrendered to the will of God. On several occasions in which he could have been overwhelmed by turmoil, he made the deliberate decision to calm and quieten his soul. By putting his trust in God, he found peace; just like a child.

As children of God, like David, we need to learn to take personal initiative and responsibility, combined with absolute trust and confidence in God. We need to place more value on our relationship with God than we place on any other thing. We also need to strive to live in complete obedience to God’s revealed will. We should be doers of God’s word, not just hearers only.

How do you respond to storms of life? As believers, we are people born in due season. Every true believer is indwelt by the prince of peace – Jesus Christ. He indwells us through the Holy Spirit. One of the fruits the Holy Spirit produces in the life of a believer is PEACE, an inner peace that money cannot buy.

What are the challenges confronting you right now? Place your hope in the Lord! Stay humble before Him. Obey his word. Like a weaned child, trust him to guide you; to protect you, to provide for you, and perfect all that concerns you.

A C T I ON   P O I N T

Quit being the Lord of your life. Give your life to Jesus. He will give you rest. Pray this simple prayer below:

Dear Heavenly Father, I worship you. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Please have mercy on me. And forgive all my sins. Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, I unreservedly surrender my life to you. I confess that you died and rose from the dead for me. Please be my Lord and personal saviour, and grant me the grace to live for you all the days of my life. Thank you so much Lord Jesus, I proclaim I am born again. Amen.
