DON’T BE DISTRACTED

Meanwhile, our enemies were planning to swoop down upon us and kill us, thus ending our work. And whenever the workers who lived in the nearby cities went home for a visit, our enemies tried to talk them out of returning to Jerusalem. So I placed armed guards from each family in the cleared space behind the walls then as I looked over the situation, I called together the leaders and the people and said to them, ‘don’t be afraid! Remember the Lord who is great and glorious; fight for your friends, your families, and your homes!’’ (Nehemiah 4:11 – 14 TLB)

One of the weapons the devil uses in fighting God’s children to stop them from accomplishing divine assignments is DISTRACTION. It manifests in diverse ways, but always the essence is to derail the purpose of God for one’s life. Anytime you set your heart to accomplish a worthwhile I.e. God-given assignment, get ready to fight. Possession is always by contention.

God’s people were almost distracted and intimidated by the evil schemes of their adversaries. Thank God for a purposeful leadership provided by Nehemiah, who proffered a strategy which was both spiritual and practical. God always has a strategy that makes any battle cheap. Whenever you are faced with a challenge, first pray and seek God’s help, committing the challenge to Him. The answer may come in the form of right perspective and strategy. Notice that they did not only use a spiritual approach. Part of Gods strategy was that they set watches that guarded them while the work continued.

The plans of their enemies were thwarted. They were able to stay focused and not be distracted by the wiles of their adversaries. With weapons in one hand and working with the other, they were able to complete their assignment.

In your life, are you experiencing many attacks and distractions? Are there people trying to put you down? Is the devil stirring up any storm to intimidate and distract you? You need to remember Nehemiah.

Remember the importance of having a clear vision of Gods call upon your life. What assignment has he given you? What resources are at your disposal? Stay focused on completing your assignment and being a good steward of His resources.

Despite all oppositions, the word of God is clear “… overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us” (Romans 8: 37 TLB)
