28. The foundation of the Church.
Matt. 16:16-19, “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” A particular denomination used this scripture wrongly by saying that Peter is the foundation of the Church. This is not correct. It is the revelation that Jesus Christ is the son of God that is the foundation of the Church. Rom. 9:33, “As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” I Cor. 3:11 states categorically “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ”. This revelation should strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ and solidify your foundation. With the revelation of Jesus Christ as your foundation, when a contrary wind blows, you will be unshakeable.
Pray –
- Father, I thank you, I appreciate you and confess your word that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. You gave your son to die for our sins and on the third day He rose from the dead. Lord, I give you praise. Lord I thank you because I believe in your finished work at Calvary and I declare that you are the true foundation. You are the sure foundation. You are the foundation of my life. May your name be magnified. Thank you blessed Lord.
- I ask you to repair every faulty foundation that I have ever built – in my marriage, business, relationship with others, spiritual walk, from where I am born, any faulty foundation especially the foundation of idolatry. Lord, I ask you to repair. Help me O God to build on the solid rock. Thank you as I proclaim that you are the rock of my salvation. Blessed be your name in Jesus name I pray. Amen.
