THE CROSS: A SYMBOL OF DOMINION OVER THIS EVIL AGE II

The devil knew that if he attacked the Church frontally, he would be rebuffed so he crept in surreptitiously through the back door of error. This particular error is not so obvious; it is an error of emphasis. The Church did not completely abandon the cross; she still remembers the cross during Easter especially on good Friday. Many times when you begin to emphasize things that are minor above or more than the major issue, naturally, you will produce an error. The Church moved more and more away from the cross and from the right direction.

Gal. 1:3-4, “Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present world, according to will of God and our Father.” Other Bible translations of this scripture replaced the word deliver with rescue. There is concerted effort to remove the word deliver from the Bible, meanwhile, the Bible is a book of deliverance. The cross is a symbol of deliverance. Jesus went to the cross to deliver us from the penalty of sin. The Greek word, ‘Soteria’ from which the English word, save or salvation is derived is a compound word that includes all manner of goodies ‘sozo’ and multiple deliverances, protection, provision and so on. We do not have the right to whittle down the intensity of what God has done. Whether you use the word liberated, rescued or delivered, you are saying the same thing. Without the cross there cannot be deliverance from self. Without the cross there cannot be deliverance from the flesh.
