It is your responsibility to love God. Matt. 22:37, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Commandments are meant to be obeyed. The point is – it is not just loving God but what is the quality of the love? Is it with all your heart? Not ninety-nine percent but one hundred percent! Until we come to that, we are still not there. The only one who can evaluate your love for God is you.
The question is do I really love God with all my heart, with all my might, with all my soul and with all my mind? Do I really love with complete devotion to divinity? That is the subject of placement of value. True worship is being so fanatically in love with God that the mere idea of substituting that love for anything else does not even remotely exist. May God take us to that point in the name of Jesus Christ. Once we get it right at that level, heaven takes note. True love is not parochial. True love is not shallow; it is deep. It is not passive; it is passionate. It is an issue of the heart.
The first reason why God created man is to become like him. I was fortunate to have been very thoroughly catechized at the age of seven. Some of those catechisms are very correct although some are not. Some of the correct ones are –
“Who created you?”
Answer – God created me.
“Why did God create you?”
Answer – God created me:
- So that I may know him.
- So that I may fall in love with him. (God created you to love him. He created you so that he will be the object of your love, your first love).
- To worship him in this world so that I may dwell with him in his kingdom of everlasting bliss.
Pray –
- Everlasting and most merciful Father, Holy one of Israel, I worship you. Thank you for making me after your image and likeness. Grant me grace to love you with all my heart, soul and mind in Jesus’ name. Amen.
