“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Pray –
- Lord, please help me. I don’t want to walk in darkness. I want to walk in light. Help me O God. Is there any way that I am still walking in darkness? I am sorry.
- X-ray my heart, O God. Do not allow me to carry any iota of darkness into the year ahead. Lord, empty my heart of anything that defiles and damns. Empty my heart of anything that is not right and anything that is not in the light of your word.
- Lord, I do not want any lie ascribed to me, have mercy on me, O God, according to your loving kindness. Let the light of your word be my path every inch of the way. I do not want to stumble. I do not want to miss your mark.
- Help me never to turn away from the light in the name of Jesus. Help me to walk with you in Jesus’ name.
For those who are asking people to fall out of fellowship and stay on their own, this counsel violates this scripture. We must have fellowship with one another. That is the divine prescription for the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus Christ to be effective in our lives. If you have no horizontal fellowship, you are on your own. You must get it right both vertically and horizontally. God is interested in your horizontal and vertical relationships – fellowship with God and fellowship with one another. The decision to clean up is a personal decision. The decision to habour iniquity in the heart and miss God’s mark is a personal decision. The decision to leave the truth of God’s word is a personal decision. Nobody can take that decision for you. There are five ‘ifs’ in this scripture. The Bible is a book of decisions. The greatest decision anyone can take is the decision to walk in the light. To walk in the light means to live the truth of God’s word; to align your will in every respect, in every aspect to the will of God. To have it right at the vertical level of your relationship and to have it right at the horizontal level.
The blood of Jesus is available but the blood does not avail unless it is applied. It is only those who recognize the efficacy of the blood and the seriousness, the danger, the gravity of what defilement or sin can do that will tap into it and celebrate that opportunity. It takes positive expression of one’s will to download any blessing that God has given. You need to recognize it. You can’t appropriate what you do not recognize. You cannot take delivery of what you don’t even recognize its existence.
