DOMINION OVER DARKNESS (PART I)
Psa. 119:106 “I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments”. It is not the word you hear that makes you, it is the word you have vowed to perform; it is the word that you live that makes you. One of the sweetest things the Holy Spirit taught me recently is that Christianity is sweet when it is lived. The Christianity that works is not the one that you preach; it is the one that you live.
Isa. 60:1-2 “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee”. The Church must arise otherwise darkness will take over. There is no hope for the world if the Church fails. Darkness is so aggressive that if you don’t checkmate it, you will begin to rationalize nonsense. There is a stench that comes with darkness. If you are serving a God that is not light, then you are serving a wrong god. Satan’s apples are always full of worms; never partake of it.
To be in the light is to always ask God ‘are you ready to go with me? Moses never came to a point where he took God for granted and that was the secret of his success. It is not every open door that is God’s door, some are satan’s trap. If God is not leading you, even if the choice is between two things, there is seventy percent possibility that you will choose the wrong one and regret later. Terrible darkness has covered the earth, how prepared are you? The entity called darkness is a terrorist and that is why you see satan’s agents in strategic places with plenty of money. That is why you must learn to say “No”. The devil is not omnipresent, but he has designed his kingdom in such a way that he can accurately plant his agent in your bedroom if you are not discerning and if there is not enough light in your home. Occultists, Satanists, witches and wizards, robbers, kidnappers are all agents of darkness; they do the work of their master, the father of darkness, a destroyer from the beginning, a thief, a murderer, the opposer of everything God does, the hater of truth, the father of lies. (John 8:44).
One of the ways to know where darkness is operating is deception. The Bible says, “The dark places of the earth are full of habitations of cruelty”. Psa. 74:20. That is the reason why Africa is the way it is. Wild beasts in the wilderness go for their prey mostly in the dark; demons also operate in the dark. There is something about the night that Christians need to understand. After creation, God called the day light and night, darkness. A lot of the battles that overwhelm Christians are the battles they lost in the night. Most long-term problems can best be handled through long range midnight prayer. Incidentally, that is when sleep is sweetest. There is a spirit called slumber. When that spirit is in operation, everybody will start feeling drowsy even during the daytime. Fatigue is an agent of darkness and that is why Jesus told his disciples to watch and pray. There is a close relationship between weakness of the flesh and midnight hour. Once you are able to key into the midnight hour with prayer, you will find it easy to subdue the weakness of the flesh.
Gen. 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth”. We have a dominion mandate, we are not to negotiate with darkness, we are to rule over it. We are the light of the world, a city set on hilltop that cannot be hidden. We are the salt of the earth and we cannot afford to lose our saltness. Light brings colour, light brings life, once your remove life, death sets in. Dominion over darkness is what God is calling us to enforce.
Job 22:21-30 “Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee … thou shall make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shall pay thy vows. Thou shalt also decree a thing and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways … and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands”. People love to pick the verse 28 “thou shall also decree a thing and it shall be established unto thee”. That is part of the hollowness and ignorance. You don’t decree above your level of consecration. That is why it is good to start from verse 21. There are so many ‘ifs’ before you get to verse 28 and begin to decree. The person that is decreeing is doing so in fornication, in strife, in bitterness, in unforgiveness, in compromise, the person is probably a thief. Such a person decrees and expects something to happen. You don’t decree above your level of consecration. Consecration goes before decree if you want your decree to be established. People make decrees without proper consecration and as such, their prayers cannot fly.
Christianity is sweet but it is only if it is practiced. If every Christian goes out there and manifests Christ in the market places, there will be great revival without any need to preach the gospel; the world will bow. The value you place on your relationship with Jesus is the same way people will treasure it.
Is there any way you have compromised in this race? This message is for you. Take your time and repent profusely.
