Part of the evil inheritance that people get born into, practically speaking, is the iniquities of the past generations. One of the things you must never transmit to the next generation is the iniquity of idolatry. God hates and punishes idolatry. God classifies an idolater as a rebel.
Eze. 18:2-4, “What mean ye,that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, the fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son of mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” What God is saying here in essence, is I don’t have to look at the sins of your fathers in order to pronounce you guilty. Many people use this scripture to present God as unjust in his ways so he decided that he would only punish man for his own sins. Practically, if you were born as a child of a Hindu priest, where will you be dedicated? In a Hindu temple, of course.
I heard of the story of a prominent man who initiated all his male children into a very prominent chieftaincy title in the eastern part of Nigeria. When the man eventually died, his sons, some of whom have now become Pastors, did not want their father to be buried in a traditional way. However, the custodians of their tradition insisted that since the man did not die as a Christian but as a pagan, he must be buried according to traditional rites in all its fullness, which will take seven days to conclude. Unfortunately, his sons consented and the man was buried as a pagan. What a tragedy!
The Bible states clearly in Prov. 1:10 “my son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.” The implication of what the children of this man did is that another generation of idolaters have been raised. You can be a Pastor officiating on the pulpit and still be an idolater. It is very difficult to be a complete Christian in some African countries today because most people have left Egypt, yes, on the way to the Promised Land, but they are still lusting after and holding onto the cucumber and garlic of Egypt.
PRAY:- Heavenly father I thank you so much for your love for me. I receive and celebrate the salvation package you have given me through your son Jesus Christ. Grant me the grace to relinquish any thing that demeans your image and glory in my life and help me to make heaven at last. I proclaim I am blessed beyond curse in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
