THE CROSS: A SYMBOL OF DOMINION OVER THIS EVIL AGE V

Heb. 6:4-6, “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” The doctrine of once saved, saved forever is not in the gospel. Jesus never preached it neither did the apostles. This scripture makes us understand that it is possible for believers to fall away. People have magnified grace above the word and stretched it to be what it is not. They present grace to mean licence to live anyhow after saying the sinners’ prayer. That is not a correct theology but error. Heb. 12:14-15 says, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” Grace is never a licence to sin. It is possible to fail of grace. One of the ways to fall out of grace is to allow bitterness take root in your heart. Grace will never be a licence to sin. Grace is an empowerment to say no to every appearance of evil, to pursue holiness, to love the unlovable, to say no when everything around you is asking you to do it. The greatest display of grace is still the cross. If you don’t know the cross, then, you don’t understand the message of grace. Unfortunately, many grace preachers today do not go to the cross. The origin of grace is the cross. Riches can be very deceitful. It makes you feel that you have arrived when you have not even started. In the parable of the rich fool, he felt that he had arrived but the same day, the owner of life called him home. He left with nothing!

Rom. 12:2 tells us not to be conformed to this age. The driving force of this age is self-centeredness. The spirit of this age is the spirit of ego – selfishness, greed even in the Church. How can you have transformation if the anointing of the cross is not flowing? The anointing that flows from the cross is the only thing that can transform the old man to a new specie. The cross is a symbol of transformation because it is the meeting place between divinity and humanity. It is the place where the will of man was for the first time completely subsumed with the will of God.
