HOLY SPIRIT, OUR INTERCESSOR
We established in the previous message that the best thing that can happen to you this year is to allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. When he leads, he guides, he counsels, he protects, he teaches. The Holy Spirit is the greatest intercessor there can be. He knows the mind of God, he is God; he is omnipotent, he is omnipresent and omniscient. The highest definition of prayer is that prayer is an expression of wisdom. Prayers are in levels. If you don’t engage the Holy Spirit, you can be sure that it is most likely that you will pray amiss. If you don’t learn to engage the Holy Spirit, it is most likely that you will choose by sight. If you don’t engage the Holy Spirit, you are most likely to be deceived. What a wonderful partner we have in him!
Rom. 8:26-28 – to pray according to the will of God is to allow the Holy Spirit do the prayer through us. Do you know that your prayer life is what defines your spiritual life? A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. Unfortunately, the world system is programmed in such a way as to relegate prayer to the background, it is designed in such a way that you will keep on chasing shadows. Until the Holy Spirit begins to lead, until he begins to guide and partner with you in intercession, you cannot grow in spirituality. Your prayer points show your prayer height.
When you are connected to the Holy Spirit, he will guide you to say the right prayer. One man in the Bible that did not squander such an opportunity was Solomon. It takes a worshipful heart to say the right thing that will move God. Solomon was worshipful. What is worship? Worship is placement of value on your relationship with God. That was why when the opportunity came for him to express his worship; to express how much he placed on his relationship with God, he offered 1000 sacrifices. He gave God the best and in response, God decided to make him the best. Give God your best and he will give you his best. Put God first. Those who give God rejects are the biggest fools because they will be dejected and eventually get rejected. God gave Solomon a blank cheque by asking him to request for anything. To show that his heart was not tied to nonsense, he made the right request. Prayer must start from the garden of the heart from where all issues flow. If you don’t’ get it right in the garden of the heart, you will miss everything. You cannot be a true worshipper if you don’t know how to worship in spirit and truth. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth. We must learn to partner with him for our worship to be meaningful otherwise it will be empty, full of wood, hay and stubble, with nothing to warrant divine endorsement.
Vs. 28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”. The key here is love. Things will work out for the good of those that love him. If you love him, you will put value on your relationship with him.
The real test for Abraham when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, was that of placement of value. Do you place more value on your son or on your relationship with me? God wanted to know. When Abraham passed the test, God endorsed him and decided to commit great things to him. God promised Abraham that his son will come through him. When I hear people sing, “Abraham’s blessings are mine”, I always want to ask ‘when did you sacrifice your Isaac?”
The Holy Spirit has a special interest in the saints and where we lack in understanding, he is able to direct us and supply whatever we lack since our lives as saints are not dependent upon luck or gamble, we can depend upon the providence of God to make a way for us. Rom. 8:14 – the best result in our prayer life is when we allow the Holy Spirit to have his way in our lives and not grieve him by disobedience.
Eph. 4:29-32 – when you obey these scriptures, you will become a better person, you will be more at peace with yourself. If you are able to sort yourself and get it right with the Holy Spirit, your horizontal relationship with others will be sweet. It is very easy for someone who is free inside to free others. The reason why people hold others in unforgiveness is because they are captives of their own emotions such as pride, ego, prejudice etc. As long as you are holding someone down, you will be down.
The Holy Spirit is our comforter and gives us both wisdom in witnessing for the Lord and special gifts in the service of the Lord. 1 Cor. 12: 1-11. The Holy Spirit empowers us with special gifts so that we can evangelize and he does it classically, he makes it so beautiful that you will have no doubt that he is the one doing it.
Holy Spirit is holy, he is not a spirit of anything goes, he is the spirit of holiness, he is the spirit of sanctification, he is the spirit that makes you hate what God hates and love what God loves. He is not the spirit of compromise or double speaking, he is the spirit of righteousness, truth, wisdom, holiness, the spirit of our adoption to sonship, the spirit of grace. We need to place value on this wonderful gift that God has for us. Every spirit has a home and that spirit can lead you only to its own home. The Holy Spirit originates from heaven and we know where he is taking us. You must know how to engage the Holy Spirit here. The greatest partnership God intended for man is Holy Ghost partnership that is why even for his son to fulfil his ministry, the Holy Spirit had to be involved “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Ghost and with power; who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with him”. Acts 10:38. Desire to have an encounter with the Holy Spirit today.
Holy Spirit is a transformer and the beautiful thing about him is that he transforms you to be a transformer. You can never leave a place the way you met it when the Holy Spirit’s transformer is inside of you.
PRAYER
- Holy Spirit, I welcome you into my life, come in the fullness of your power, come in the fullness of your fire, help me to know my weaknesses, please have mercy on me. I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back. Fill me to overflowing, purify me, transform me and make me a transformer. Make me a vessel of honour fit for the Master’s use. Deposit your power gifts, your revelational gifts, your wisdom gifts and vocal gifts on me. O God help me, be my guide, be my helper, be my teacher, be my comforter, be my counsellor, be my advocate, be my intercessor and baptize me by fire. Use me to the glory, praise and honour of your name in the name of Jesus.
- Henceforth, anywhere I enter, make me an igniter, make me a transformer in the name of Jesus. Help my evangelism this year in Jesus name. Let everyone I encounter, encounter you. Use me to dissolve doubts, please pray through me in the mighty name of Jesus.
- Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, by your special divine orchestration, Lord, I ask that you make all things work for my good this year going forward in the mighty name of Jesus.
- Holy Spirit, do not allow me to grieve you, make it impossible for me to walk in disobedience, make it impossible for me to miss your mark. I want to walk with you, I want to partner with you and I ask you to direct me, help me, lead me, intercede for me, empower me, mentor me to greatness and grant me the grace to walk with you according to your terms in Jesus name. Amen.
