DOMINION OVER DARKNESS (PART XIX) CONFRONTING IDOLATRY

Some Truths About Idolatry: –

  • Idolatry is a serious disease of the heart. Idols reside in the garden of the heart. Somebody can be in the Church but with idols in his heart. As far as God is concerned that person is just wasting his time.
  • God does not answer the prayer of a person whose heart is infested with idolatry. Psa. 66:18 “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me”. (KJV). It is folly to come to a holy God to ask for blessings with idols in your heart. It is ignorance that makes people do this. If you understand the nature of God, you will know that God’s hand will be tied concerning such a person. God wants to bless, he wants to raise, he wants to lead, he wants to protect, he wants to provide, he wants to promote, he wants to perfect, nevertheless, he cannot violate his absolutes; he cannot violate his word. He has elevated his word above all his name.
  • Idolatry blocks the heaven. The worst thing that can happen to anybody is to have a blocked heaven. When the heavens are blocked, prayers don’t fly; when the heavens are blocked, there will be dryness; when the heavens are blocked, there will be wilderness, there will be desert, there will be poverty, scarcity, lack, darkness, corruption and everything that is evil. These are some of the symptoms of idolatry. The structures of idolatry are not diminishing in most African countries; as a matter of fact, they are being fortified by the day. How then can God bless the continent and all the countries involved in idolatry? This is the reason why there is serious curse on many African nations. Some people even go to the extent of setting up idols in their homes in the name of decoration. There was a very brilliant young man who was in the habit of gathering artefacts and other works of art, which he uses to decorate his home. He invested so much money on this but at the peak of his career, he was arrested and imprisoned. When eventually he was released from prison, he was a shadow of himself and he eventually died in an uncompleted building. He had so many projects but he could not complete one. Go and clean your house, throw away every idol, burn them because idolatry blocks the heaven. Jer. 14:20-22, “We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee. Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us. Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Art thou he, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things” (KJV). This is a prayer of repentance that people are beginning to come to recognize and come to terms with. The vanities of the gentiles are the idols that the gentiles worship, of course, these idols cannot bring rain. Anywhere you find idolatry, the heavens are blocked, there is suffering in the midst of plenty, there is strife, there is violence and so on. Nothing thrives where the heavens are blocked.
