Sunday service

A long time ago when I was still an undergraduate and still playing lawn tennis, I took part in a tournament that was between postgraduate students and undergraduates. My opponent was very good and was the champion of the postgraduates while I was the champion of the undergraduates but only one champion was expected to emerge so I knew that it was going to be a very tough game indeed. Incidentally, my opponent was also my doubles partner so I knew his capabilities. He came very prepared, a dogged fighter. He took the first set, I equalized and he became fiercer with so much energy in him. When we were in the last set, he was leading by 5-3 and 40-15 so I discerned that I needed to do something extra otherwise my opponent would win.  There was a particular ball he gave me, a very beautiful one, I closed my eyes and stretched my right hand to fire the ball and it was spot on and it became 40-30. There was another one that made it 40-40 and yet another one which was an advantage to me and after another one, I took it to 5-4 and then to 5-5. During the course of the game, the lion in him manifested forcefully, he became fiercer, it was a very tough game indeed but the hand of God manifested and I was able to beat the champ. He was so devastated that he refused to concede defeat. The hand of God is capable of turning your defeats into ultimate victory. It was the hand of God that made the difference in that game. Isa. 41:10-15 says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. For I the LORD  thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Fear not thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.”

Dear Heavenly Father I worship and adore you. I stretch my hands to you and hand over all the battles of my life to you. I proclaim that through the finished work of your dear son on the cross of Calvary i am more than a conqueror. I ask you to turn every defeat i have ever suffered in my life into ultimate victory. I pray in Jesus’ name.
