operation 18:18

2021/2022 OPERATION 18-18 DAY 12F – MEDITATIONS ON II PETER 2 & 3

Temptations will surely come; it is your responsibility to say, no, I will not bow. Temptations work by lust. The reason why people bow to temptation is because there is a connection between the temptation and the lustful heart of that person. Ensure that there is no lust in the garden of your heart. Doing business is becoming more and more difficult because of the temptations in it. It is left for you to seek the face of God before embarking on any business relationship. Once you start using worldly means to do the work of God, beware. There is danger. That is what so many people are doing and it is unfortunate.

Verse 19-21, “You aren’t saved by being good, they say, so you might as well be bad. Do what you like, be free. But these very teachers who offer this ‘freedom’ from law are themselves slaves to sin and destruction. For a man is a slave to whatever controls him. And when a person has escaped from the wicked ways of the world by learning about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and then gets tangled up with sin and becomes its slave again, he is worse off than he was before. It would be better if he had never known about Christ at all than to learn of him and then afterwards turn his back on the holy commandments that were given to him.” The claim in verse 19 was one of the first things that challenged my theology. Is it true that once you are saved, you are saved forever regardless of how you live? If you are trapped in this, take note that it is a big lie that is will lead many to hell. The worst thing that can happen to anyone is to carry the Bible to hell. One day, I tuned my television set and heard a very popular televangelist say that Christianity is not right living but true believing. Really? Even demons believe and they tremble.

If your right believing is not producing right living, change your belief because it is a wrong belief. The Bible says of Jesus, the pattern Son, “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore, God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows” (Heb. 1:9). It is not enough to love righteousness; you must hate what God hates. Don’t frolic with evil. The evil you tolerate might turn around and become a Frankenstein monster that will consume you. There is no redeeming feature for evil, the Church must wake up and preach the gospel that the apostles preached not convenient gospel of easy believism – grace as licence to live anyhow. Yes, you are not saved by works but by faith in what Christ has done, however, after you are saved, what happens? Are you saved to go back to sin?

Pray

  • Lord, please deliver your people even those who know the truth but are living as if they are saved forever and therefore free to do anything in the name of Jesus.

Where then does the doctrine of once saved, saved forever come from? There are people who were once preachers of the gospel but today are drunks. It is possible to have tasted the truth and then backslide. It is very possible for one to have smelt heaven and yet backslide. What did Apostle Peter say? He said such a person’s case becomes worse off. The gospel of once saved, saved forever is from the pit of hell.

Pray

  • Pray that you will not tolerate anything that is capable of taking you to hell fire. That God will help you to break away from every wrong association, habit, teaching or anything at all that the devil has configured to derail the purpose of God in your life.
  • Lord, deliver us from every appearance of evil. Help us to drop the things we need to drop and to break away from the things that are capable of derailing your purpose for our destiny in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
  • Have your way in our lives and clean us up O God. Do not allow us to go back to our vomit in the mighty name of Jesus. Thank you blessed Lord, in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Verse 22, “There is an old saying that ‘A dog comes back to what he has committed, and a pig is washed only to come back and wallow in the mud again’. That is the very way it is with those who turn again to their sin”.

May this not be our portion in Jesus’ name. It is our responsibility to run away from sin. Jesus has done his part, God the Father has done his part, Holy Spirit is helping us to do our part. He is the spirit of grace. True grace is supernatural empowerment to do ordinarily that which you are incapable of doing. True grace is supernatural empowerment to live above sin, not to condone it.
