LOOK DILIGENTLY
”Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord; Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest the root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” (Heb. 12:14-15)
Spiritual diligence is one of the attributes of any one who genuinely desires to walk closely with God. It is very necessary to always allow the Holy Spirit beam His search light into the innermost chambers of our heart. Christianity makes sense only within the context of the pursuit of a holy God. This pursuit must be according to His terms, not according to one’s terms. Peace is one of the fruits of the HolySpirit. Only those that have it can give it. Holiness is not loving God, and doing as one pleases, it is loving God and going out of one’s way to please Him. A simple definition of holiness is being complete in obedience to God’s instructions. Here is how Jesus puts it: ”…….If a man loves me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him” (John 14:23)
Without holiness no man shall see the Lord. Any service rendered even in God’s vineyard that is not born out of love for God does not have eternal value. The love of God will keep you out of sin. You will become habitation – minded instead of visitation minded. That implies that the only place you can commit sin and be free is where God cannot see you.
I strongly believe that we will have a better church if we first teach people the love of God and holiness before teaching them Faith and Grace.
Look diligently, so that you don’t fail of the grace of God. Ensure that there is no root of bitterness in your heart. Bitterness breeds defilement which fouls one’s spiritual countenance. God is absolutely Holy. He wants his children to be holy. A holy God cannot indwell a bitter heart. God says:
”Speak unto all the congregation of the Children of Isreal, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy for the LORD your God am holy.” (Lev. 19:2)
