LIVING IN THE LIGHT
”This is the message God has given us to pass onto you that God is Light and in him is no darkness at all. So if we say we are his friends, but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin , we are lying. But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other; and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin.” (I John 1:5 – 7 TLB)
There is no better life than living in the light of God’s presence. God is light. Every good and perfect thing comes from Him. In His presence is fullness of joy. On the other hand, darkness depicts everything evil. All manner of crooked and perverse things operate in the dark. When people are in the dark, they hog their enemies and fight those God has sent to help them.
God is interested in our vertical relationship with Him, as well as our horizontal relationship with people. Notice the word ‘if’ in the scriptures above. The bible is a book of decisions. God does not force His word on people. He allows man to decide. It is important to note that God’s blessings are conditional. If we continue to live in God’s light by obeying what His word says, then the first result is that we have fellowship with one another. If we are living in the light of God’s presence, and have fellowship, then the blood of Jesus Christ continually keeps us clean.
Are there areas of your life that you are still struggling to comply with the word of God? Have you suffered any defeat in recent times? How has your horizontal relationship with others been?
