THE PEACE OF GOD
“Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1 KJV)
When you are saved or born again or justified, you have peace with God. The peace of God is quite a different thing. The peace of God comes by walking in obedience to the will of God. Writing to the Philippians, Apostle Paul said:
“Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanks giving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding; shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. ” (Philippians 4:6 – 7)
Notice the word “keep” in the 7th verse. It means to guide within established rules. Like an umpire in a lawn tennis match, the peace of God ensures that you are in conformity with the will of God. This is why the peace of God is a very vital guiding light. The role of an umpire in a tennis match is to ensure that the match is played within the rules of the game. The peace of God ensures that you do not derail from Gods will for your life.
Have you come to the crossroads of a vital decision in your life not knowing which way to go? Let the peace of God that passes all understanding be your guiding light. The great shepherd of our soul leads us besides the still waters. Any time you take a decision and suddenly lose your peace, it may well be that God is not in it. Rethink.
The peace of God is a priceless treasure. It is one of the immeasurable blessings of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. The world does not have peace so it cannot give it. Anyone who rejects Jesus cannot know the peace of God. Jesus is the prince of peace. Prophesying about Jesus, Isaiah said:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called wonderful, counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of peace.”
