THE GREATEST MIRACLE
”He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues,
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they recover.” ( Mark 16:17-18 KJV)
We are not called to be miracle – chasers, but to be miracle producers. The first sign that should follow every believer is CASTING OUT DEVILS IN THE NAME OF JESUS. Miracles authenticate the GOSPEL. A miracle is a wonderful sensible event, above but not contradictory to nature, which is done by Divine intervention.
Miracles vary in degrees of awesomeness. It is clear that the raising of the dead through prayers is a great miracle. In 1 Kings 17:17-24 when the son of the widow of Zarephath died and Elijah was informed, he prayed, threw himself on the child for about three times and the child came back to life. Indeed, this was a great miracle, but when dead bones cause the dead to be raised to life, it is a greater miracle. This was exactly what happened in 2 Kings 13:20-21. A dead person was being conveyed to the burial site, but because the mourners sighted a band of enemy soldiers heading towards them, they quickly threw the corpse into a nearby grave, where Elisha had been buried. As soon as the corpse touched Elisha’s bones, the man came back to life, and escaped with the fleeing relatives. One of the numerous lessons from this incident is that anointing does not die with the anointed. Anointing is the burden – removing yoke – destroying power of God. It is the outflow of the power of the Holy Spirit through a human vessel.
Dearly beloved, as great as the miracles described above may be,the greatest miracle is the miracle of salvation. When a dead man is raised from dead, people rejoice, but there is joy in heaven when a soul is saved. One character in the Bible whose life examplifies the miracle of salvation was Mary Magdalene. She was a prostitute with seven demons. In one glorious encounter with Jesus, she was delivered, saved and completely transformed. She was later to become the first evangelist to discover that Jesus is Risen from the dead.
In my over twenty years of ministry, I have seen incredible signs and wonders done in the name of Jesus. But my greatest joy is the miracle of transformation of lives that only Jesus can perform. Many years ago when I gave my life to Christ I was taught to sing:
”With comprehensive faith in the Name of Jesus
I can move mountain
I can even raise the dead
With comprehensive faith in the Name of Jesus
There is nothing impossible”.
