THE POWER OF DEDICATION III

Luke 2:21-24, “And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; (as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons”. That was the dedication of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

One of the secrets of living a victorious Christian life is dedication. If Jesus Christ was dedicated in order for him to fulfil his ministry, every one of us ought to be dedicated. Whatever you dedicate belongs to the power you dedicate it to and no longer belongs to you. If you dedicate your child to God, naturally, God takes over. That is the best decision anyone can take. No one can take care of your child more than God; you don’t have what it takes.

Verses 25-32 contain the prophecy of a man called Simeon, an intercessor who lived all his life waiting for the manifestation of the Saviour. He was in the temple the day Jesus was brought into the temple for dedication. He experienced the fulfillment of prophecy and was content to depart in peace.

Verses 36-38 contain the story of prophetess Anna who was devoted to prayer and was 84 years when Jesus was brought into the temple for dedication.

At the age of twelve, Jesus was already committed to his Father’s business. That is the power of dedication. He went to Jerusalem with his parents for the feast of the Passover and somehow his parents left him behind thinking that he had gone ahead of them. When they discovered that he was not with their team, they returned to Jerusalem to seek him and after three days, they found him in the temple in the midst of the learned. His mother asked him why he allowed them to be worried, his response is found in verse 49. “And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” In other words, “you dedicated me in the temple which is my Father’s house and that is where I should be!” Everyone operates from their ‘father’s house’. Everyone you come in contact with in your business and career is operating from an altar, their ‘father’s house’. It matters where and how you dedicate your child.

ACTION POINT

Where were you dedicated? If not in the church through Christ, please re-dedicate your life to Jesus Christ.
