VIRTUES OF THE CROSS 2B – (UNDERSTANDING WORSHIP I)

The greatest thing that God did for man was to make man a free moral agent. Your will is your right to choose, it is your right to decide. What would have happened if that right was taken away from man? Man would have become a zombie, but that is not the will of God. God wanted one who will voluntarily submit to the will of God knowing that his will is the best for man. 

The cross is the greatest manifestation of the submission of the will of man to the will of God. It is at the cross that the will of man crossed the will of God and there was submission. This is deep. This is why the greatest problem of the Church started when she started de-emphasizing the message of the cross. Some of God’s generals like Billy Graham understood this because the only message he ever preached was the message of the cross throughout the period of his ministry spanning over fifty years of great impact. He finished well and finished strong. 

If you remove the cross, you reduce the Church to a social gathering. The will of man in union with the will of the snake which theologians call the unified intelligence is the greatest problem of man – man’s will in union with the will of the snake in the Garden of Eden. When man fell he acquired a diseased perception of reality incapable of taking right decisions. There is too much stubbornness in the Church today. There is blessedness in not having a programme of your own. Today, people are too self-willed. Jesus is not the shepherd of goats but the shepherd of sheep.

One of the products of being a true worshipper is that heaven will reveal deep secrets to you in unmistakable terms. When your will is set to do the will of God, God will not be far from you. Once you tell God, not my will but let your will be done, he will show you deep things. 

Decision is one of the most difficult things even in management today. It has never been easy to take a valid decision. Decisions determine wealth. Decisions determine health. Decisions determine longevity. Decisions determine destinies. Decisions determine destinations. Decision determines everything. One bad decision is all it takes to wreck a life that should have been very successful. May you never take a wrong decision again in the name of Jesus. 

When people take wrong decisions, they tend to blame God for it and even make the mistake of calling it the will of God. It is very wrong for you to blame God for the will of the devil. This is what a lot of leaders do today, inadvertently. Don’t ever jump into conclusion. The Bible says the secret of the Lord is with them that fear him (Psalm 25:14). One of the qualities of worship is that worship will develop reverential fear of God in you. That is the beginning of wisdom.

• Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for giving me the right to choose. Grant me the grace never to make a wrong decision again in my life. Let your will be established in every facet of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
