SUNDAY SERVICE

THREE POWERFUL COMMANDS FOR A VICTORIOUS CHRISTIAN LIVING I

The best place to be is in the presence of God. Somebody might say, but God is everywhere. That is very correct. That is true. The issue is not about his omnipresence, the problem is, are you connected with him? Meditate on this. You cannot appropriate what you cannot comprehend, that is the problem of man. God is so near yet man is very far away from him. It is only through the finished work of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that we can reconcile and make good meaning out of life. Otherwise, you will end up as a struggler after the wind; vanity of all vanity that ends with vanity.

I wonder what makes unbelievers tick. The life of an unbeliever is vain, empty, shallow, narrow and void; a pursuit of vanity, a struggle after the wind. Until you come into close relationship with God, you will still be chasing something that was never lost and that can never be apprehended. That is exactly how it is and it goes on and on.

There is something about life; time flies. I still remember vividly just like yesterday when we used to run for cover whenever we hear the sound of the enemy plane hovering over our home during the Biafra war in Nigeria; we usually take cover under a bed in a particular room in our home. We hid under a bed not necessarily under the shadow of the almighty but under the shadow of the bed. That is how it is with unbelievers. For me it is just like yesterday, but it actually happened in 1967. Time flies!

We shall pass through this place but only once, so if there be anything we have to do, let us start doing it now. Stop procrastinating. What are you supposed to do that you are not doing? What are you planning to do? Time flies!

Time waits for no one. How can we make the best of this life? Only serious minded people ask that question. If you go through Genesis chapter five, you will notice that it is a chapter of genealogies. You will read the story of a particular person; this person begat this person and then died. Another married had some children and then died. The narrative continues in that manner until it got to a particular man called Enoch. The Bible says, “Enoch walked with God: and he was not for God took him” (Gen. 5:24). In other words, Enoch was raptured. That is a foreshadow of what is coming.
