AS THE DEAR PANTS AFTER THE WATER BROOKS I
ACTION POINT
- Meditate on Psalm 42.
This Psalm depicts the type of heart that every one of us should have if we want to encounter God and I believe that that is the best thing that we should aim at. Those who want to encounter God are not passive, they are passionate. Anyone that has ever had an encounter should be passionate though they can be passionate in the wrong direction, passionate about the wrong things just like Apostle Paul before his conversion was passionate about the law. But he was a man of very strong conviction. He believed in lies, he believed in error and he pursued it because of his deep convictions.
That is the way it is with fanatics. Most times, fanaticism is extreme devotion to error; when someone makes error their god, he becomes a fanatic and there is not much you can do to help him except to pray and ensure that you don’t stand in his way. It is better to avoid arguments because many times, arguments become who wins and who does not and when it gets to that stage, it becomes extreme devotion to self.
I want you to mean business with God. God is not a rewarder of those who seek him, he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. The defining word here is diligence because a lot of people seek God in their own ways. Also, there are many gods that people seek. The point is not seeking God but in value.
What is the value of God in your scheme of things? Is he the God you can put in your pocket? Is he the God you can overrule at will? Is he the God you remember only when you are in difficulty? God takes note of these things and he is not fooled. He is not mocked.
If there is anything I want to do for the rest of my life it is to raise people who are seriously in love with God; passionately pursuing God, that’s all. We will get there by the special grace of God in the powerful name of Jesus. That is the fellowship, I desire to pastor. God will make the alignment to happen. It is by his grace.
One of the most difficult things to do is to set up a ministry; if God is not in it, there is nothing you can do about it. A lot of people think ministry is just to go and learn how to say some things and then go and open shop. Before long, the ministry folds up. Whenever you see a ministry that is thriving and where the hand of God is moving, learn to celebrate God.
