DOMINION OVER DARKNESS (PART II)

TEXT: Gen. 1:1-5 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light… and God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day”. (KJV).

Take note of God’s divine strategy for confronting darkness. If you can put this principle to use, you will begin to experience wonderful miracles in your life. What is the divine strategy that God used in creation? He allowed the Holy Spirit to brood over. To brood over means to hover as when a mother hen broods over her eggs to bring forth life. The spirit of God came to brood, to hover over situations in order to produce life. He brooded over and the world came into existence. God allowed the Holy Spirit to move over the face of the voidness and of the dark and of the formless and he began to speak. He began to call things that be not as if they were “let there be …” The word and the spirit will create and re-create in your life. God began to legislate, He spoke exactly what He wanted to see, He didn’t negotiate with darkness. No. He commanded and they became. I like to think about the God who spoke the world into existence; I like to think of Him as the omnipotent God whose word is full of life and power. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God … And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not”. John 1:1-5. Who is this Word? Jesus Christ. You can see that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (the triune God) was active in creation.

How do you apply this to change your world? There is no situation that a child of God who is redeemed, cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and who is properly connected to the Almighty cannot change by using the strategy of allowing the Holy Spirit to brood over and calling things that be not as though they were. Speak to the situation instead of grumbling, or complaining about it. Every true child of God should be a problem solver. You are as relevant as the problem you solve. The day the Church stops solving problems is the day the church stops being relevant. In the final analysis, everyone will be remembered to two things – the problems you solved and the problems you create. There is no situation confronting you today, which you cannot change if you are a true child of God who is connected. Your confession goes before your possession. After God spoke, there was a performance because his word was a decree. Wake up early hours of the morning, confront darkness with light and you will see that darkness will evaporate.

Darkness was an entity that dwelt in the face of the deep. Darkness connotes everything that is evil; evil thrives in the dark. Darkness connotes every challenge you are facing; every unsatisfactoriness of things, darkness connotes amalgamation of evil forces that have vowed that you will not be what God wants you to be. Darkness connotes the things that want to reduce your life to nothing, darkness connotes powers that want to empty and waste your life, darkness connotes everything that opposes the will and purpose of God for your life. Darkness was a fundamental and foundational issue right from creation. God had to confront darkness. As a child of God, you must be ready to confront darkness.

In verse 5, you will notice that light is day while darkness is night. There are certain things that you should do in the day of your life, may you not do them in the night, in the name of Jesus. One of the things that the kingdom of darkness specializes in doing is manipulating time. Every delay, for instance, is time manipulated. It took me a while to realize that delay is a spirit. I experienced this when I was ministering deliverance at Foursquare Gospel Church many years back. I was led to rebuke the spirit of delay one day in the midst of a strong deliverance ministration and I was shocked to see that almost everyone who had issues with delay one way or the other began to manifest the same way. When the spirit of delay was cast out, they began to have their miracles one after the other. The devil specializes in manipulating destinies in such a way that when people should be harvesting what they sowed in the morning, afternoon and evening of their life, they will still be sowing in the night. This is a manifestation of darkness. Darkness is terrible. When people are in gross darkness, it is very difficult to help them. Take note that darkness operates mostly in the night.
