DOMINION OVER DARKNESS (PART XIII) CONFRONTING WITCHCRAFT
There are only two kinds of authority on earth today, namely: righteous authority and unrighteous authority. You are either under the righteous authority of God the Father or you are under the unrighteous authority of the devil. God gets his job on earth done through righteous authority empowered by the Holy Spirit while the devil does his job through unrighteous authority empowered by the spirit of witchcraft. These are the two classification of spirits. If it is not the Holy Spirit, it is a contrary spirit and every contrary spirit is classified under witchcraft spirit. The story of the damsel who was possessed with the spirit of divination that was prophesying and following Paul and Silas in Acts 16:16-24 is a very classical example of this. The damsel was actually saying the right thing but then she had a contrary spirit. When Apostle Paul discerned and rebuked the spirit, the spirit left her and divination ceased immediately. We need to crush the power behind witchcraft.
Another subtle way by which witchcraft operates even in the Church today is legalism – self-righteous rule making. Trying to obtain righteousness by your self- rule making. It means your faith is not based on what Jesus did on the cross. If you can get righteousness by your self- rule making, why did God send his Son to die? Gal. 3:2-3 says, “… received ye the spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? Having began in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”. Anything that takes your focus away from the cross to your own self-righteous rule keeping is legalism and God hates it. Justification is by faith. Rom. 4:21-25 says, “And being fully persuaded that what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore, it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Now, it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification”. Rom. 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. Jesus has made us free comprehensively and we must walk in that liberty. John 8:36 reads “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”.
