The necessary preparation for divine manifestation is cleansing, purity. God shows this in the tabernacle doctrine where you need to make a number of ablutions in order to get to his presence. You are coming to a holy God, you must clean up. Dan. 1:8, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself” (KJV). Another translation says, “But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way” (NIV).

Daniel resolved that he was not going defile himself. May we take that resolution in the name of Jesus. This is because any blessing God will give you will flow from him through you. Defilement is a blockade. Many blockades are not external but self inflicted. Until we come to this realization, we may be chasing shadows. We may be fighting a wrong enemy. A lot of people think that their problem is external when actually they are the problem. You can embark on one hundred days fasting during which you will lose weight and burn off some fat of course and you will get the health benefits of fasting but that is it. As far as the spiritual benefits are concerned, you have scored zero. Why? Because you have refused to release forgiveness, you have violated the principles of God. if you don’t forgive you will not receive forgiveness; your prayers will not be answered.

According to Psalm 66:18, if you habour iniquity in your heart, the Lord will not hear you. The beginning of this is consecration. There is no short cut to consecration if you are going to get anything from God. If you have one hour to pray, it is better to spend fifty minutes cleaning up and use just ten minutes to make your request. That ten minutes prayer is worth one hundred days fasting as long as you have consecrated yourself, you will see the hand of God. There is no short cut to this. Improper or partial consecration is one of the greatest blockades to answered prayer in the Church today. Just as Daniel decided, may you decide that you are not going to be defiled. I took this decision a long time ago; I hate defilement and agents of defilement.

Defilement is like dust, it does not need a big opening to penetrate, you don’t need to invite it in, and all you need do is to open a small hole and it’s there. It clings and attaches itself. It beclouds, it dulls. It makes you not to reflect the glory, it becomes a blockade. We are meant to reflect the glory of God. Defilement ensures that the glory is not reflected. It constitutes a major blockade. Daniel resolved and when the chips were down, Daniel and his friends became ten times better. Dan. 1:20. That principle is still very valid. The secret of ten times better is proper consecration.
