The easiest way to miss God’s target is to look in the wrong direction. The Greek word for sin is hamartía (ἁμαρτία) which means to miss the mark. Sin is missing God’s mark in holiness, righteousness and wisdom. Iniquity means turning away from the revealed will of God (the light of God). Once you turn away from the light, missing the mark is inevitable. So, one can conclude that iniquity is the beginning of every sin. The word of God is the revealed will of God. Lamenting about idolatry in Hosea 7:8-10 (TLB), God states: “My people mingle with the heathen, picking up their evil ways; thus they become as good-for-nothing as a half-baked cake! Anything that will make one to miss the rapture is one’s greatest enemy. No idolater will make it to heaven. Do not tolerate anything that defiles and damns your soul.
