SEEK YE FIRST

”No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matt 24, 33 KJV)

God is interested in where we place Him in our lives. He wants us to love Him with all our hearts. The proof of your love is your pursuits. Show me what you are chasing and I will tell you what you really love. It is not enough to say we love God, we have to prove it by making Him the object of our first pursuit.

The system of the world is so designed that if one does not take time, one would chase money into grave. Anything you place side by side God in your heart is your idol. Idolatry is loving the creature more than the creator. Everyone is chasing something. Some of the things people seek include:

(I) Money, (ii) Power (iii) Position (iv) Fame) (v) Self-interest. Of course it is good to have money, but it is a terrible thing for money to have you. Money is a good servant, but a bad task master. It is very important to get your priorities right. There is order in creation. Heaven is orderly. God does not bless anything that is disorderly. Anyone who wants to walk with God needs to be a God chaser; followed by family, and then money.

Unfortunately, most people are chasing money more than God. A life spent in chasing money (and things) is a sterile life.

”For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, seek ye me, and ye shall live. But seek ye not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.” (Amos 5:4-5 KJV)

The best way to invest life is to invest it in things that have eternal value. If you get fame from God, it is already paid for. If you get it for yourself, you will have to pay for it. Anything you own has no future, but whatever God owns will live after you. If you don’t want the sky to be your limit, aim heaven. Remember, Jesus is the way.

Examine your life. Are you really seeking God first? What was the first thing you thought about this morning when you woke up?

P R A Y E R

Heavenly Father, may your name be hallowed. I thank you for your love for me. I repent of seeking other things above you in my life. Have mercy on me. Grant me the grace to seek you first and above all things in my life.  Fill me with Christ till the world no longer sees me, but Jesus Christ shining through me; in Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
