THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST 1D

SOME SALIENT BIBLICAL TRUTHS CONCERNING THE DAYS PRECEDING HIS SECOND COMING

2. Normal life activities will continue making His coming very unexpected especially to sinners. Today, if you tell some people that Jesus is coming, you will receive all manner of reactions and responses. Some will say that they have been hearing about the second coming of Jesus Christ from the day they were born why has he not come? Normal schedules, business routines, buying and selling, marriages and other things will continue and then suddenly, it will happen. Luke 17:26-30 compared it to the days of Noah and Lot when normal social activities were taking place. For those who have not read the Bible dispensationally, there is tendency for them to think that this is abstract. It has happened before. God comes to judge after every dispensation. A dispensation is a moral period in human history that ends with judgment. This dispensation of grace is fast winding down. Jesus told us how it is going to be so that we may be wise and so that the day will not take us unawares. If anyone told you this time last year that there was going to be a worldwide lockdown for weeks without any form of gathering, outing, visit, work and so on; would you have believed it? The COVID-19 happened as a warning signal, a precursor. The lessons from the pandemic are enormous; anyone who did not learn from the outbreak of the pandemic might not be able to learn again. Don’t let normal activities misguide you. It didn’t take war amongst the superpowers to halt normal activities, no, it took only a virus. The whole world has been mesmerized with everything almost paralyzed including economic activities without any hope of immediate recovery.

3. No one knows the exact day. If anyone comes up and says he has done some calculations and he knows exactly when, run away from such. Some ministers got into error by doing this. If you are however, familiar with the word of God, you will not listen to such people. No one knows the exact day. Mark 13:30-32, “Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my word shall not pass away. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” It is only God the Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ alone that knows when the end will be. It is his exclusive prerogative. May you not forget this in Jesus name. Let no man deceive you that he has done the eschatological calculations concerning the day.

4. The saints will know the times and seasons (but nobody knows the exact day or the hour). That is what the Bible says. Luke 21:25-31, “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the tress; when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.”
