VICTORY IN THE WILDERNESS V

Text: Num. 21:1-9

If you can learn to go to the cross and download the blessings attached to it, no harm shall come near you. Every curse that was pronounced on man and on the soil was judged on the cross. Every serpentine poison, past, present and future has been crucified on the cross. Every work of the devil, everything that came as a result of the fall of man was settled on the cross. The divine prescription for the comprehensive well being of man is still the cross. That is the reason why the devil fought the message of the cross to the point that some men of God began to substitute the cross for other things. They started preaching the message of lion and eagle instead of the cross. We need to get back to the cross.

Verse 9 reveals the obedience of the children of Israel to the divine prescription and because they obeyed, they lived. Your survival in the time of challenge, even in the time of divine judgment, is predicated on your being complete in obedience. Without obedience, there is no survival. This is the point that you need to understand. No prescription is superior to divine prescription. The divine prescription for the Church remains the cross. The Church started getting weaker and weaker when the message of the cross became confined to only Good Friday. The greatest altar ever raised in the universe remains the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.

Sin has been judged. The snake has been judged. Every serpentine poison has been judged. Curses and hexes and evil decisions have been judged, every challenge has been judged on the cross. John 3:14-15, says, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life”. Faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross gets the job done.

John 8:28, “Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things”. Jesus was prophesying how he was going to be crucified. John 12:32, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”

The cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ, is the symbol of comprehensive dominion over the snake in the wilderness. Whether in the wilderness of your finances or marriage, sickness, of your business, any wilderness whatsoever, the divine prescription for getting out of it and walking in dominion is the cross of Jesus Christ. You cannot beat the wisdom of God. If you throw away the wisdom of God and apply your own, you have missed it. May a journey of eleven days not take you forty years in the mighty name of Jesus.

• Father, I thank you for so much love you have shown me in sending your son Jesus Christ to die for me on the cross of Calvary. I ask for grace to maximise the profound blessings of the cross in Jesus’ name. Amen.
